Session 1.3

CCS in Denmark takes off: Opportunities for Schleswig-Holstein? (EN)

Just across the border, CCS is becoming a reality. Denmark is moving fast with large-scale offshore storage. Projects like Greensand (INEOS) and Bifrost (TotalEnergies) are preparing to meet ambitious national targets and EU climate goals. Proven reservoirs in the Danish North Sea can store vast volumes of CO₂, offering a near-term, large-scale solution for industries that must decarbonize.

For the hard-to-abate sectors in Schleswig-Holstein, this is not just a unique opportunity to connect, collaborate and capture the benefits of Denmark’s head start, but also can be a game changer for Northern Germany!

The session will:

  • Provide a brief update on Danish CCS developments and the industries already engaged.
  • Outline realistic timelines and logistics options for CO₂ transport to Danish offshore storage.
  • Present the new Port of Esbjerg – Brunsbüttel partnership as a direct cross-border CCS link.
  • Explore common opportunities and “quick wins” for industries in Northern Germany.

Join us to discover how Schleswig-Holstein can connect to Denmark’s CCS infrastructure and be part of Europe’s fast-moving journey towards net zero!
